The Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme (MiDAS) is the nationally recognised qualification for employed and volunteer minibus drivers ensuring a consistent standard of driving skill, knowlege and expertise.  

MiDAS is administered nationally by the Community Transport Association UK and has been designed to enhance minibus driving standards and promote the safer operation of minibuses in the UK.

MiDAS Course Contents

The MiDAS course is modular with classroom & vehicle based learning and a driving assessment with an emphasis on:

  • Drivers legal responsibilities
  • Driving for safety and economy
  • Passenger safety
  • Child passenger safety
  • Manual handling awareness
  • Health & safety awareness
  • Collision and breakdown procedures
  • Personal safety for drivers

Accessibility Module Course Contents

  • Safe use of tail-lifts and ramps
  • Safe transportation and securing of wheelchairs, mobility aids and other items on vehicles (use of restraint equipment)
  • Disability awareness
  • Child and adult passenger awareness and assistance

Essential Requirements

To undertake MiDAS certification with Social Access, you must satisfy the following criteria:

  • Aged over 25 (for insurance purposes)
  • Held a current, full, clean driving licence for a minimum of 2 years (licences are checked with the DVLA)
  • Pass an eyesight check

MiDAS Training with Social Access

Social Access can provide the following MiDAS certification:

  • Standard MiDAS
  • Accessible MiDAS
  • Refresher MiDAS 
  • Driving Assessment or Re-assessment 

Training is delivered by Martyn, our fully qualified MiDAS Driver Assessor Trainer at our premises at Bradley Stoke (just off J16 of the M5) and certification lasts for 4 years.  Training is delivered over one to two days dependent on the modules being taken with courses available every month or on request (minimum of 6 delegates).  

Driving Assessments can be booked at your convenience following completion of the classroom and vehicle element of the course (certificate is issued after successful completion of all modules and the driving assessment).

All MiDAS courses include your delegate pack, the MiDAS Driver Handbook, use of safety equipment, driving assessment and use of vehicle, a working lunch and refreshments throughout the course.
